New Delhi: In what could be said to be a major setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, Panchayat poll results in Varanasi and Ayodhya are indicating the saffron pert is losing ground to the BSP and SP. Reports from the two important districts of Varanasi and Ayodhya are indicating that the ruling party led by Yogi Adityanath is all set to loose the Panchayat elections. Out of the forty Zilla Panchayat seats in Varanasi, Samajwadi Party has won 15 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party could win only 8 seats. Bahujan Samajwadi Party has won five seats and the Apna Dal has won three seats. Independents have won three seats.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi represents Varanasi, the numbers in the Panchayat polls indicate an anti incumbency. Likewise, in Ayodhya, Samajwadi Party has won comfortably in 24 of the 40 Zilla Panchayat seats while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party could win only six seats. In the remaining 10 seats, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party has won five seats whereas independents have won in another five seats. Both the Varanasi and Ayodhya districts are important for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In Mathura too, the Bharatiya Janata Party has lost the elections to BSP and RLD. While the BSP has won 12 seats in Mathura, the RLD has won nine seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party has won eight seats.
These three places have an important role in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s political agenda in Uttar Pradesh. While Prime minister is representing the Varanasi Lok Sabha Constituency for the second time, the Construction of the Ram Temple is in full swing in Ayodhya. The BJP is ruling in the center and the state. Is the Panchayat results are any indication, the Bharatiya Janata Party is definitely losing ground in its own bastion just before the assembly elections are due in another 8 months.
