New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna on former President Pranab Mukherjee.
Besides, late Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Nanaji Deshmukh and late singer Bhupen Hazarika were also conferred the award posthumously.
83-year old Pranab Mukherjee, who served as 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017, received the award from the incumbent President, at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Bhupen Hazarika’s son Tej Hazarika received the award on his behalf. While a relative of Nanaji Deshmukh, Virender Jeet Singh received the award for him.
